About us

Hemjern As was started in 2016 based on an idea to utilize a natural source of heme iron to prevent and combat iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. The idea stems from many years of research on the nutritional aspects of marine mammals, with high concentrations of heme iron in hemo- and myeglobin in some species and geographical areas.

Hemjern As has collaborated with many players at home and abroad, sourced raw materials from Greenland, New Foundland, Iceland and Norway in the search for the most suitable raw material for our purpose. In collaboration with various players, we have tested and developed a production method for processing the raw material that ensures the preservation of all its properties and allows long-term storage of the final product. Through clinical studies at Haukeland University Hospital, the properties of INUA have been tested and scientifically proven.

Our product makes a difference compared to existing iron supplement products. The absorption in the body is high, the required daily dose is low and side effects are few, if any. The administration of the tablets is simple and they can be taken with other foods, with drinks or alone.

The natural product is based on raw materials from deep-diving marine mammals. The important value of human well-being has been known and used by coastal and indigenous peoples since ancient times. Meat from some marine mammals has 30 to 20 times higher content of heme iron than red meat from terrestrial animals, and 100 times more than that found in pigs or chicken meat. Together with the use of high-tech industrial production methods, the unique property makes it ideal for development as an iron supplement.

In April 2016, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared a UN Decade of Nutrition Measures (2016-2025). The Decade requires the eradication of hunger and the prevention of all forms of malnutrition worldwide, especially stunting, waste and obesity in children under five , and anemia in women and children. Unfortunately, one is far from the goals and especially when it comes to iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, one must state that the development has gone the wrong way. WHO is now calling for development and a break with a previous approach to the issue of whether to move forward. INUA is Innovation and Diruption at the same time!
